Besuch von Mitgliedern der WetterAG bei der Ridgeway Christian Highschool in Pine Bluff in Arkansas

Seit Jahren betreiben die Mitglieder der WetterAG des Gymnasiums Schloß Neuhaus ein Wetterblog zusammen mit der Ridgeway Christian Highschool in Pine Bluff in Arkansa. Im Sommer 2012 besuchte die Partnerlehrerin, Frau Diedre Young, das Gymnasium Schloß Neuhaus, in diesem Jahr hatten wir die Gelegenheit, vom 18.8. - 2.9. 2013 Arkansas zu besuchen. Wir : das sind Yüyang Xiao, David Bothor , Lasse Lohberg zusammen mit Frau Heyne-Mudrich und Frau Beine-Funke.
Da Frau Heyne-Mudrich schon eine Woche früher zum GLOBE-Jahresmeeting nach Washington geflogen war, traf sich die Gruppe am 18.8.2013 um 16 Uhr vor unserem New Yorker Domizil in der 3rd. Avenue.
Wir hatten 1 1/2 faszinierende Tage in New York.

Am 20 8 2013 flogen wir um 12 Uhr vom Flughafen La Guardia nach Little Rock in Arkansas. Dor wurden wir von den beiden Organistorinnen unseres Aufenthaltes Diedre Young und Tammy Cummins-Smith mit einem großen Willkommensplakat empfangen.

Der "Itinerary", d.h. das Programm für die folgenden Tage  werden wir hier zeigen und dann entlang der Aufenthaltstage berichten.

Tuesday 20th August: Pick up at airport. BBQ (dinner) at my house for the evening with Tammy Cummings Smith, the Millers and the Hickmans

Wednesday 21August: Visit Ridgway Christian School; both campuses (the high school in on a separate campus this year). Dinner at host homes (students) Teachers; Dinner at Tammy's with teachers from school.

Thursday 22nd August: Tour National Weather Service in Little Rock at 09:00, Lunch in Little Rock and then Tour the KATV Weather Station in Little Rock at 13:30.

OPTION: Shopping in Little Rock after dinner OR go back to Pine Bluff and have dinner in host homes.

Friday 23rd August: Tour the Emergency Weather Management System in Pine Bluff at 0900, lunch at local resturant and then back to school for the afternoon. Dinner at host homes.

Saturday 24th August: Drive to Petit Jean State Park, leaving at 0800, sightsee park and have lunch at the lodge. (absolutely GORGEOUS view!). Visit Lake Dardenelle on the way home and either have dinner in Little Rock or dinner in host homes.

Sunday 25th August: Church at host homes' place of worship (you two will be going to church with me). Lunch then....

Excursion:

Drive to Bentonville, on the way stop at Fayetteville and see University of Arkansas campus. Spend the night in Bentonville.

Monday, 26th August: tour the American Art Museum in Bentonville. Lunch at the museum. Drive to Eureka Springs and visit the Hotel and local springs and Thorncrown Chapel. Drive to Branson, Missouri and attend the Dixie Stampede Dinner Show. Spend the night in Branson.

Tuesday, 27th August: Leave Branson, Missouri and head to Mountain View, Arkansas and tour the Arkansas Folk Center. Have lunch at the Folk Center. Can also do a tour of Blanchard Caverns if the students want to go. We could also spend more time in Branson and and see some attractions in the morning. We can head back this day to Pine Bluff or we can spend the night in Little Rock and do the Clinton Museum the next day before heading back home on Wednesday, 28th August!

Wednesday 28th August: Either driving OR back at the school for the kids (you can rest that day!!). Tour the Pine Bluff Historical Museum in the afternoon after school.
Dinner at host homes.

Thursday 29th August: School for all, Tour the Delta Nature Center in the afternoon and then dinner at Lane's Steak House in Star City, Arkansas (you will see cotton and rice fields on the way there!)

Friday 30th August: School during the day then on to Memphis, Tennessee! Dinner along the way and then spend the night in Memphis that night.

Saturday 31st August: Tour Graceland (Elvis Presley Memorial) . Lunch in Memphis and then head home. Dinner at host homes.

Sunday 1 September: Be at Airport at 0900.

Ankunftstag 20.8.

Ein "Südstaatenbüffet" empfing uns zusammen mit allen Gastgebern. Wir lernten die "Razorbacks" kennen, life sind es wilde Hausschweine, übertragen ist es "die" Footballmannschaft aus Little Rock.

22.8. Beim Unwetter- und Tornadowanrdienst in Little Rock und bei WetterTV von Arkansas

24.8.Wanderung im Nationalpark Petit Jean

26. - 28.8. Tour durch die Ozark Moutains - wunderbare Landschaft.

Haltepunkte sind das Chrystal Brigde Museum für Kunst in Bentonville - es stellt nur amerikanische Künstler aus -  das Schlachtfeld und Denkmal Pea Ridge aus dem Sezessionskrieg - der Vergnügungspark Silverdollar City und die phantastische Reiterschau Dixieland Stampede in Branson.

29.8. - 31.8. In den letzten Tagen des Aufenthaltes gab es ein getrenntes Programm: Freitag/Samstag fuhren die Erwachsenen vorbei an Baumwoll- und Reisfeldern

nach Memphis und besuchten Tunica und Graceland, das Haus von Elvis Presley, während die Jugendlichen zu einem Baseballspiel gingen und anschließend eine Poolparty bei Familie Hickman veranstalten durften.

Der Abschied am 1.9.2013 war nicht leicht. Wir waren warmherzig und gastfreudlich aufgenommen worden und man hat uns einen wichtigen und interessanten Einblick in das Leben der amerikanischen Südstaaten geboten.Der Heimflug führte uns noch über Dallas, am 2.9. landeten wir wieder in unserem wesentlich kühleren Deutschland. 

Es war eine wunderbare Reise und wir hoffen , dass unsere neuen Freunde den Weg nach Paderborn bald finden werden.
